Bryan Woodley - Q&A
Why do you think the offsite sector is so important to the future of the construction industry?
Offsite solutions are a vital part of the strategy to deliver the volume of construction, both domestic & commercial, needed over the next decade. Offsite provides better cost, time & delivery certainty; 50% faster construction programmes; higher build quality with reduced waste; better productivity with BIM linked to CAD/CAM/CON; addresses site safety & skills shortages and gives world-class energy efficiency & environmental credentials.
Do you think that structural timber is the future of the offsite industry and, if so, why?
The future is hybrid. There is no panacea; no one solution fits all. Already the construction industry as a whole is too fragmented, hence inefficient & lacking innovation. All Offsite solutions have their part to play; not just hybrid technology but also blending philosophies & approaches. For instance, not just CLT / timber frame / SIPS / factory injected insulation / steel but also volumetric / panellised / modular /services / local supply chains.
Why do you think members of the industry need to attend Explore Offsite at Ecobuild?
Ecobuild is already the place to investigate new solutions. Explore Offsite takes this to a new & specific level allowing busy constructional professionals to gain new insights & greater understanding at a time-efficient “one-stop-shop”. A solution for every construction challenge.
